This week’s frames are late, according to my self-imposed Saturday schedule, but, in both newsletters and other facets of life, I’ve been wondering if I am excessively, or reflexively, self-punitive. I tell myself that I have to, or cannot, do certain things, when not doing, or doing, those things feels most natural and true, and if I (read: when I inevitably) break this silent contract with myself, I feel a fine mist of shame wash over me, which, in practice, is not as good a fuel for change as in theory. Sure, discipline is a positive, but unproductive mind games with yourself? Not so much. Perhaps I’m in need of some de/re-programming. Perhaps I should have been more like water today.
